ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ leading media and entertainment company, has chosen Ikegami HDK-79GX 16-bit full digital HDTV portable camera systems for integration into the newsroom at its headquarters in Quezon City. Additional HDK-79GX cameras have also been purchased for deployment with an outside broadcast vehicle used primarily to televise major sports events. The total order was for 17 systems, all delivered and in successful operation.

A long-established Ikegami customer, ABS-CBN selected the HDK-79GX cameras on the basis of good experience with the quality of Ikegami’s support services. The network already uses Ikegami HDK-790EXIII full digital HDTV studio cameras and Ikegami HDS-V10 ENG-style flash-memory tape-less cameras.

Designed for studio and field HD production applications, the HDK-79GX is a docking-style camera employing three 2/3-inch 2.3 megapixel AIT CCD images providing a horizontal resolution of 1,000 television lines, an excellent signal to noise ratio of 61 dB at f/11 (1080/50i) sensitivity. Digital video processing is performed in an advanced ASIC.

Advanced features accessible in the HDK-79GX including master gain control, lens aberration correction, adjustable gamma settings plus precise adjustment of colour temperature between 2,000 and 20,000K. A digital extender function allows the centre of a shot to be instantly enlarged up to 4x at fixed resolution with no loss of image sensitivity.

Two types of camera operator assist function are incorporated in the HDK-79GX camera head. A focus-assist function enhances edges in the viewfinder to enable the camera operator to make critical focus adjustments.

The HDK-79GX is equipped with dedicated prompter and external monitor outputs. The auxiliary output can be assigned via the control menu to QTV-1, QTV-2 or main video provided the CCU also support two QTV channels.

Up to 96 HDK-79GX cameras can be controlled via a single coax cable between CCU and video control locations. The OCP-300 controller include touch-screen LCDs. The flexibility of the OCP-300 can be selected across a range of settings from basic to complete to fit the customers’ operating discipline.
