FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEVTV Chooses Six Ikegami UHK-430 4K Camera Systems for its First 4K UHD OB Vehicle
Vietnam Television (VTV), the national broadcaster in Vietnam, has invested in six Ikegami UHK-430 4K cameras and CCU-430 control units for use with its first 4K UHD OB vehicle which is based at the network’s Technical Centre in Hanoi.*
As the third most populous country in Southeast Asia, Vietnam has a TV ownership rating of over 90% and high cable TV penetration, making it a country that is attracting attention in Asia as a major broadcasting market.
VTV has operated Ikegami production equipment in many of its studios and most of its OB vehicles since the SDTV era. The decision to use UHK-430 cameras was made in 2020 when the transition from analog to digital broadcasting took place and when work started on next-generation 4K broadcasting. Installing the camera systems in an OB vehicle will allow production at various venues such as concert halls and stadiums. The system will be used for a variety of programme styles including recording of cultural and artistic content, conferences, live performances and game shows. The new camera chains are VTV’s first native 4K camera system with native CMOS sensors and also its first experience of working in full 4K OB vehicle.
“The UHK-430/CCU-430 camera systems feature 4K native sensors which allow us to capture content in very high quality,” comments Nguyen Van Chung, Director of the VTV Technical Programme Production Centre. “We put our trust in Ikegami product quality, durability and performance, based on our past experience. We have used Ikegami HD and 4K equipment for several projects and are impressed by the images which they deliver. In addition to the performance of the 4K camera, inherited functions such as Focus Assist, which is particularly demanding at 4K resolution, and the Lens Remote function to control the lens from the OCP, are now more user-friendly. The OCP and CCU are connected by lightweight Ethernet cable, which makes handling easier, and a detailed alarm function simplifies maintenance. In addition, the IP interface makes it possible to support IP in the future which is another key reason why we selected this system.”
Ikegami promotes and delivers its products into the Vietnam market through Japan-based distributor E-Globaledge Corporation. “We have been on good terms with VTV for a quarter of a century, adds Kentaro Yamamoto, Department Manager at E-Globaledge. “We hope this 4K deployment by VTV will encourage the start of UHD broadcasting in Vietnam. We are proud and honoured to be chosen as supply partners in this new venture.”
Ikegami’s UHK-430 is a 4K-native camera system with simultaneous HDR/SDR processing. Its three 2/3-inch CMOS sensors provide full 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution plus the depth of field needed for studio and outdoor production. The camera is equipped with a B4 bayonet mount compatible with 2/3-inch broadcast lenses. An optional SE-U430 expander accommodates large studio or OB lenses. In its standard form, the UHK-430 weighs just 4.6 kg. Dimensions are 149 mm wide x 243 mm high x 340 mm front-to-back.
An integrated Ikegami AXII processor enables the UHK-430 to deliver 40 gigabit/s un-compressed full bandwidth video transmission. The AXII also supports a wide range of features including 16-axis colour correction and focus-assist for 4K and HD video modes.
Designed for use with the UHK-430, the 3 RU 18.5 kg CCU-430 camera control unit supports easy migration from HD to 4K live production. Features include switchable 4 x 3G-SDI 4K output as well as HD output. An optional MoIP module for the CCU-430 allows 4K UHD video plus additional signals such as intercom and return-video feeds to be exchanged between the CCU-430 and a local IP network hub over a lightweight optical fibre instead of requiring multiple SDI cables. This enables easy and low latency signal distribution.
